Mr. Dvij Mankad, selected for Masters degree at Weizmann Institute of Science

“With the excellent technical facilities at the RDS lab and the enthusiastic guidance of Dr. Anil Kumar Gourishetty (and their students), it was a delightful experience to learn the relevant basic concepts of spectroscopy.”

Work Done: The simple project I worked on in collaboration with two of my batch-mates Jay Desai, and Aman Mehta, was about developing a mathematical framework for calculating detection efficiencies of gamma radiation from multi gamma emitter nuclides. Due to the very nature of the task, a clear conceptual understanding of the experimental physics involved was called for.  Building upon the theoretical work of Vidmar, we were able to formulate the desired mathematical framework. It was a pleasant experience of scientific closure to witness the experimental verification of the framework by the team at the RDS lab. This work can be found here(link).
